Should I choose Maker or Buyer?
The answer is in the name. If you want to be able to buy original art, Buyer is the better option. If you’re mostly interested in making art, go with Maker.
How much are bids worth?
The BoMA Fan membership is 100% FREE, so placing an exact monetary value on bids is a bit complicated. However, a 100:1 ratio is a decent estimate (e.g. 100 bids = $1 USD)
How many bids do I need in order to buy art?
It depends. The minimum starting price for a piece up for auction is 6,000 bids, so with a little luck, all you need is 6,000 bids!
The minimum “buy now” price is 40,000 bids. “Buy Now” means the piece is yours and no one else can place bids on it.
The starting bid and “buy now” price of each piece is determined by a variety of factors, including the artist’s minimum sale price and/or the price BoMA paid to acquire the piece.
What if I spend bids but I don’t win?
Spend at least 6,500 bids on a single piece and you will have the opportunity to select a consolation prize if you don’t win.
What are the consolation prizes?
Even the consolation prizes are original art! BoMA artists provide consolation prize pieces in addition to their top 10 submissions. In other words, if you don’t win the piece you were bidding on, you can choose any consolation prize you want – even one from the same artist!
You must select and order your consolation prize within 30 days of auction end. Claiming a consolation prize is not required, but your bids will not be refunded.
